Great breakdown but I have a few questions.
What was the impact on traffic/conversion coming from the business listing once you started doing CPC? Did CPC eat into the traffic/conversion coming from the business listing?
When you compare the business listing to CPC which one performs better in directing traffic and conversion?

Thank you for sharing your results with us. My best advice for hotels to effectively utilize Trip Advisor is to...

-Encourage guests to share their experiences on Trip Advisor through face to face interactions on property.
-Respect your past guests by engaging/responding to their comments.
-Review your competitors listings, you must know/understand your competition!

I struggle to see the value in Trip Advisor's paid services.

Extremely interesting, thanks for this.
Let's be honest: €0.60 to €0.80 CPC is way too expensive for a hotelier when you take into consideration that TA is not comparing the hotelier price versus the OTA prices directly on his comparison tool like other players do.
The hotelier has to pay for the redirection in order to deliver the price information to the user, and that's why conversion rate is quite low.

I highly recommend any hotel to stay away from this. Based on my experience of spending Millions of Euros on the TA cpc platform on behalf of different OTA websites, to be profitable in this environment a hotel would need:

- A unique website with unique service propositions and sophisticated landing pages. those standardized, badly scripted booking engines are not good enough to compete with an OTA website

- A very sophisticated tracking environment, which allows you to analyze the cannibalization of your adwords or other marketing budgets. Google Analytics can not provide such data.

- A commitment to huge budgets. Lets just say if I sign an IO with TA for 10 Million $ budget, my cpc will much lower than the one of somebody who commits to less.
